Dental Health Week 6-9 August 2018 – Friday
Friday is about check ups. A regular check up is important to monitor your oral health. It is important to maintain good brushing, flossing and eating habits.
Haven’t been to the dentist for a while? Here’s what to expect:
Remember, if your appointment is with the dental hygienist a dentist will still check your teeth.
Cleaning and polishing
Your dental hygienist will use a special instrument to scrape and remove the tartar from your teeth. He or she will polish your teeth to remove any remaining plaque or stains.
Education
After cleaning your teeth, your hygienist or dentist talks to you about any dental issues that were detected. They will show you how to brush and floss more effectively, if necessary.
Examination
Your dental hygienist and dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth to look for changes or signs of a problem. These could be a cavity or gum disease or early signs of oral cancer. If you have any visible problems, your dentist may recommend an appointment with her/him. Your dentist may refer you to a specialist, such as a periodontist, for further treatment.
X-rays
At some of your dental visits, your dentist may decide to take X-rays of your teeth to look for decay, gum disease, or other dental problems. As X-rays expose you to radiation if we can avoid taking them we will. If this is your first appointment at Canberra Dental Care bringing copies of previous X-rays may mean we don’t have to take our own images. We are able, with your permission, to request your file from your previous dentist which will help provide a complete picture of your oral health history.
Take a moment this Dental Health Week 6-9 August 2018 to implement some simple changes into your routine. Start your journey to good oral health by making an appointment today!
